Midwifery – More Than Labor And Delivery

Midwifery is more than a source for labor and delivery. Midwives provide women with attentive, personal alternative health care. Midwives take great pride in being intimately involved with their clients’ families and aim to make every woman’s journey a positive one. Hurley Medical Center’s Midwifery offers a full range of healthcare services for women, from puberty and beyond menopause. Often people associate a midwife with pregnancy and birth, not realizing their service and care can span a lifetime.

Healthcare providers trained in midwifery are passionate about enhancing women’s health. Here are some services they provide that you may not be aware of:

-Midwifery Care for Teens – Insight on the Journey to Womanhood

    -Fertility and Preconception Counseling

    -Pregnancy and Postpartum Support

-Menopause and Aging – Insight for Coping with Changes as Women Age

If you are considering working with a midwife, it is important to know that not all midwives are the same. To make the best decision for your health, you should research and understand the scope, skill set and education level of your midwife.  Hurley Medical Center has set the standards high for medical professionals within its midwifery program. For starters, Hurley’s certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are registered nurses with graduate education in midwifery as well as hands-on clinical training by practicing CNMs. Unlike licensed midwives, certified nurse-midwives must pass a certification exam and participate in ongoing education.

By setting such high standards, Hurley Medical Center has made it easier for mid-Michigan to connect with a midwifery program representing the highest level of training possible. For more details on their program visit https://www.hurleymc.com/services/women/hurley-midwifery/
